Starcatchers and the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) in Edinburgh were awarded funding through the Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation for a new project called Expecting Something in 2013/14.

Expecting Something was a 9 month project of creative activities for first-time teenage parents and their babies, who are being supported by the Family Nurse Partnership in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Sessions took place weekly, for both pre- and post-natal groups, and were led by Starcatchers Artist Hazel Darwin-Edwards at WHALE Arts Centre, Wester Hailes. The participants tried various different art-forms at their own direction including; circus skills, visual arts, a relaxation session and photography.

The name for Expecting Something has been borrowed from a similar project which has been taking place in Morwell outside Melbourne in Australia which is being run by artist Lis Blake and Polyglot Theatre. Starcatchers’ Director Rhona Matheson visited this project in 2012 and this visit gave lots of ideas for developing Expecting Something in Scotland.
