Nik Paget-Tomlinson is a musician, composer and sound designer. From 2012 – 2014 Nik was artist in residence with Starcatchers, during which time he created the interactive sound installation Sonic Playground and the theatre piece Too Many Cooks.
Welcome to a place where your footsteps make sounds and your movements animate the space. Welcome to the Sonic Playground, an interactive installation for young children aged 2+ and their carers. A space filled with music and electronic sounds to play amongst.
Created as part of the Playground Project in association with East Renfrewshire Council. The Playground, saw two artists embedded in two communities in Scotland, Barrhead in East Renfrewshire and Hamilton in South Lanarkshire. In partnership with Renfrewshire Council and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, Jen Edgar and Nik Paget-Tomlinson were selected to work in these communities, engaging with very young children in nurseries and community centres to explore, play and create experiences for this age range and their carers. To conclude the project, both artists produced a performance.
I liked all of it. I found it very interesting to hear all the different rhythm and sounds.
All the different instruments.
Liked all aspects – rhyming beats etc drums pots and pans.
Was good fun and a great experience.
