Matt Addicott, Katy Wilson, Starcatchers, Glasgow Film Theatre and Platform are creating a special film with pre-school children in and around the East End of Glasgow.

'This Sucks - The Movie' is a surreal story devised by Katy and Matt featuring Hetty the Hoover that was originally a live performance experience for 3-5 year olds created as part of Matt and Katy’s residencies with the Starcatchers project: www.starcatchers.org.uk 

Matt and Katy plan to tell their young audience the story of ‘This Sucks’ before inviting the children to bring it to life by participating in five different scenes. The involvement of the children in these scenes will be carefully planned as each session will only last a maximum of sixty minutes.

Matt Addicott is a performance maker and director, Katy Wilson a designer and visual artist – their recent work for early years audiences includes ‘Ice Pole, First Light, Sprog Rock, The Incredible Swimming Choir and Too Many Penguins’ as well as projects in association with Platform, Tramway, The Arches and National Theatre of Scotland.

Filming will take place throughout February 2012 with the final edit to be complete by the end of March. The result will be shown to a large audience at GFT in late April.

We’re looking for someone who has experience of live green screen techniques, editing software such as Final Cut Pro and working with young children. We would be keen for the successful applicant to have access to their own equipment as there is only a small budget for hiring materials.

The successful applicant will be expected to help Matt and Katy provide an enjoyable experience for the early-years audiences taking part whilst also ensuring that a short film with high production values is produced.
 
Once appointed the successful applicant will be consulted at every stage of the creative process and the fee offered is £1275 for approx 3.5 weeks work in total including editing.

To celebrate the culmination of the Creative Scotland National Lottery Inspire funded Starcatchers project, we are holding a Network Event on 6th December 2011.

This event will share the findings from the action research undertaken by the University of Strathclyde, screen the documentary film made about the project and talk about the future developments for Starcatchers.

Looking to gain experience working on an exciting arts project for 0-4 year olds?

Are you available to commit a few mornings or afternoons over the next few months?

We would love to hear from people interested in volunteering at our Starcatchers forgotten forest installation at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. The space has been designed for creative play and family arts activities and we need committed, reliable, friendly volunteers to help the project achieve it’s full potential.

Scottish Storytelling Centre

Starcatchers has been an Imaginate project for the last 2 years and through this project, a series of four artist residencies have been taking place in venues in Glasgow and Fife.  Some of the work that has been created during these residencies are being presented at this years’ Bank of Scotland Imaginate Festival. 

This event will allow delegates an opportunity to see the documentary film that has been created alongside the residencies, hear from the Starcatchers Project Manager, some of the Starcatchers Artists and from Professor Aline-Wendy Dunlop from the University of Strathclyde who is leading an action research study that has supported the project.

Starcatchers Playday for artists  

Friday 7 January 2011, Platform, Glasgow

Time      10.00am – 5.30pm

Cost       £30.00 (including VAT) per participant. Lunch is included in the cost. Subsidies may be available for students and freelance artists.

Why not start the new year with a creative burst at the Starcatchers Playday for artists. The day will give participants the opportunity to explore ideas for performances for very young audiences and creatively play with the Starcatchers Artists in Residence.  Open to artists from all art forms, the day will include games, performance, installation, visual art and more.

To accompany the performances of We Dance, wee groove at the Bank of Scotland Imaginate Festival this is a resource pack to support nurseries and groups in preparation for the performance experience.

Join Starcatchers Artist in Residence, Sacha Kyle, in a session which explores some ideas to support children's play in response to a theatre performance. Participants will see the performance of Woodbeat by Helios Theater at the Bank of Scotland Imaginate Festival as part of the event. Full details can be found in the PDF download.
